Donated by Paul Murdock, the Murdock Collection is one of the first major collections acquired by the UM. It is composed of a single accession 1960.01.

In theory the entire accession belongs to the Murdock Collection. However, this is not presently the case. Many items from the accession are not assigned to any collection (i.e. a miniature basket 1960.01.05a), even though similar items are (i.e. a miniature basket 1960.01.08. Meanwhile others are assigned to regional collections (i.e. contemporary ceramic effigy head 1960.01.06 assigned to “Mesoamerica”) or exhibit collections (1960.01.178 which is a vessel assigned to “Pottery from the Americas”) but are not assigned to the Murdock Collection.
