Collection Description

The Dwamish Collection consists of 58 pottery fragments that were collected from private property with the owner’s permission in June 1991 about five miles from Star Lake Bible Mission. The objects were collected by (Anna) Pauline Fondaw Teakell.

The Dwamish Collection was received by Dr. Arakawa on 2021-08-20. It was Donated by The Dwamish Tribe of Indians, Seattle WA. It is not clear how the Dwamish Nation came into possession of these objects. Other than a single blue note card, there is no additional documentation regarding these objects. Craig elected to not accession these items, but to instead treat them as a teaching collection. On 2023-07-14, Craig directed Sara Lambreth to bag and tag the collection, and store it in KH 200 (Figure 1).

As of 2024-04-17, the deed of gift remains in the box. Since there is no existing designation for teaching collections, Craig elected to not enter the Dwamish collection into PastPerfect–though doing so would be a good idea. Craig thinks it would be wise to develop a prefix to the typical accession number format so that teaching collections can be better tracked in a canonical database without imposing a full accession number. Craig proposes prepending typical accession numbers with TC for teaching collection.
